Vista real estate has fluctuated since the 1940s, eventually being incorporated as a city in 1963, and producing large amounts of housing in the 1980s. Vista homes range from seventies design up through modern housing styles with more space and bedrooms. Older neighborhoods have open spaces; horse quarters and greenhouses represent a country feel. Neighborhoods are nestled in among the hills. Shadowridge Country Club harbors its own neighborhood group. Steep ravines prevent over-development and hills keep countryside proper. On the outskirts of Vista, large distinct homes have been built into the hills and graced with wonderful views.

Different elementary schools specialize in math & science and visual & performing arts. The local Vista high school boasts a band that had elite privilege to march and play in the 2003 Rose Parade, a distinct honor. A bond passed in 2001 for $140 million towards building and renovating schools. Construction will continue over the next several years to introduce new schools into the city system.

Commute to San Diego is over 45 miles, making Orange County a more practical commute, with more jobs to offer. Alternatively to driving, the Coaster commuter rail travels from Downtown San Diego into Orange, stopping in Carlsbad and Oceanside. For a shorter commute, two local business parks encompass 1,200 acres and Camp Pendleton is also a wealth of jobs.

Softball reigns as the most popular community sport among adults. A community center, Boys and Girls Club, Little League also share the city’s interest. Attractions include a gas and steam engine museum and lovely orchid gardens on an herb farm. Kids can enjoy the city’s skate park or swim center with water slides and a wave pool. Alternatively, the beach is six miles close with boating, surfing, fishing, and beautiful beaches. Plazas are plentiful for shopping desires. A women’s health center and community clinic were opened in 1997. Plans continue to revive downtown with new sidewalks, upscale shopping and eating, a movie complex and new office buildings. As a great tidbit, Vista was ranked in the book 50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family.
